    Jack White joins the bill

    Werchter
A musical all-rounder. A massive talent. One of the most legendary artists of the modern generation. Jack White plays Rock Werchter on Saturday 7 July. Often compared to guitar heroes like Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page. A man who can’t be pigeon-holed. White is a constant surprise. When rock’n’roll lay dead on the slab at the beginning of this century The White Stripes woke the world with just a drum kit and an electric guitar. And ever since, he’s been rolling high. On Boarding House Reach (due for release on 23 March 2018), his third solo project, the 12-time Grammy© Award winner tosses rock, jazz, country, gospel and electronica into the blender. It’s the music of the future, and he plays it with an equally eclectic band of musicians. White is also passionately involved with Third Man Records: record company, concert hall, studio and vinyl press, and much, much more besides.
Rock Werchter 2018 takes place from Thursday 5 July to Sunday 8 July at the Festivalpark in Werchter (Belgium). Queens of The Stone Age and Gorillaz play on Thursday 5 July, London Grammar play on Friday 6 July, Pearl Jam and Jack White on Saturday 7 July, and Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds on Sunday 8 July. Tickets for Rock Werchter 2018 are for sale at ticketmaster.be.

Arctic Monkeys will perform at Mad Cool 2018!

    Madrid

They are a global phenomenon: their songs have been streamed in excess of six billion times with 5.5 million streams listened to every day.

It’s official: Arctic Monkeys will perform in the next edition of  Mad CoolFestival2018. The band, founded in Sheffield in 2002, is one of the greatest standards of modern alternative music.

Ever since they released their successful debut album –Whatever People Say I Am,  That’s What I’m Not (2006)– Alex Tuner (vocals, guitar), Matt Helders (drums), Jamie Cook (guitar) and Nick O’Malley (bass) they have not lowered the bar a bit thanks to records like Favourite Worst Nightmare (2007), Humbug (2009) –produced by from  Queens Of The Stone Age‘s Josh Homme–, Suck It and See (2011) and AM (2013). With their latest album debuted at number 1 in 10 countries around the world and charted in the top 10 in 27 others.

Their songs –including hits like I Bet You Look Good On The Dance FloorFluorescent Adolescent or Do I Wanna Know?– have been streamed in excess of six billion times, with 5.5 million streams listened to every day. Arctic Monkeys are a global phenomenon: the ultimate stadium band capable of gathering a truly massive audience on both side of the Atlantic.

They are the only band to have won both Best British Group and British Album of The Year at the Brits three times. The band has now won seven Brit awards out of nine nominations since their debut album in 2006. New acts added to Mad Cool Festival!

    Madrid

Within its wide musical scope, Mad Cool Festival 2018 is expanding its lineup further to include pop stars, legendary electronic acts and exciting rock bands alongside the very best Spanish artists.

    GLOBAL AND URBAN POP

Dua Lipa will perform at the 2018 edition of Mad Cool Festival as a breakthrough star thanks to the success of her self-titled debut album. Released last year, it brings R&B and pop together in a fresh and sexy way, and has propelled Dua Lipa into an overnight sensation, further proved by her five nominations at the Brit awards.

Post Malone, one of the most successful American musical acts to have emerged in recent years, plays Madrid for the first time exclusively with MadCool. His style has been defined as a cross between country, grunge, rap and R&B. His last single, Rockstar, has reached four million daily plays across streaming platforms. Insane numbers for such an unconventional artist!

    ELECTRONIC REINFORCEMENT

British duo Underworld, authentic masters of techno and trance, join the electronic billing at the festival. Karl Hyde and Rick Smith reached world fame in the 90s thanks to their hit Born Slippy (Nuxx), a generational anthem that was included in the soundtrack of Danny Boyle’s film Trainspotting. Since then they have continued to cement their status as one of the heavyweights in electronic music and an incredible live band. The British representation is also reinforced with Actress bringing his frofuturism and club-ready avant-garde stylings.

We will also have Paul Kalkbrenner, the German DJ and producer who has been turning the clubbing scene upside down for decades, thanks in part to his participation in the film Berlin Calling, which grew his status internationally. In addition to the already burgeoning electronic music billing we welcome the iconoclast DJ Koze, one of the most anarchic (and respected) artists of the Cologne scene.

James Holden will present at Mad Cool Festival 2018 his ambitious new project in the company of his band The Animal Spirits, an authentic set of free jazz spiced synthesizers. We will enjoy the return to the stages of Lali Puna, project of the Korean Valerie Trebeljahr, of the minimalist proposal of the Dutch duo Weval and the Texan Bayonne.

In the national section we will have the prolific Galician producer Cora Novoa(first woman to win the award for the best DJ of the year in the Vicious Awards), the Madrid-born Víctor Santana –with his revitalization of Detroit techno– and the Alicante native Ylia, former resident of clubs such as Nitsa and City Hall in Barcelona. But there is more: ELYELLA will arrive willing to surprise us with their mixes of other subjects and their own productions.

    THE BEST ROCK FESTIVAL

Rock is still the core of Mad Cool Festival. It is not without reason that the prestigious American music site Consequence Of Sound said of Mad CoolFestival The Year Best Rock Festival.

The line up is completed with the inclusion of some big names, like the much anticipated Jet. The Australian rock band, led by the brothers Nic and Chris Cester, wrote the timeless hit Are You Gonna Be My Girl? and have recently returned to the stage after what seemed like their definitive break in 2012. They will play the festival 11 years after their last concert in Spain.

We will also have the explosive duo of English punk rock group Slaves, the bright soul-rock of Childhood, the post-punk female combo Goat Girl and the primitivism of Gruppo di PawlowskiPile‘s noise rock, the gothic sensitivity of The Ninth Wave and the experimentalism of the Chinese group Re-TROS will also be part of the 2018 edition. Representing Spanish rock music will be the psychedelic sounds of Holy Bouncer and the math rock stylings of Jardín dela Croix.

    SOUNDS MELTING POT

In this new round of confirmations we welcome Iván Ferreiro. The Galician singer and composer has been singing for over 25 years and has become a soundtrack for several generations of indie pop lovers. Another of the most anticipated names is that of Ben Howard, one of the most recognized British musicians of recent years thanks to his melodic folk-pop. With his first album Every Kingdom (2011) he got a Mercury Prize nomination and a Brit award for the best solo male artist.

But this is not all. The list of confirmations is completed by Chicago rapper Mick Jenkins, the melodic emo-rock of the British Deaf Havana and Milk Teeth, and R&B from Durand Jones & The Indications and the young London composer Alex Francis, who will perform for the first time in Spain.

    Slaves in Warsaw

    Warsaw

The British punk duo, Slaves, are going to play at a Warsaw club Hydrozagadka on October 19th. The band attracts the attention of many with the brutal rawness and minimalism in almost every aspect of their work as well as unrelenting power blazing from the dirty guitars and raspy vocals.

Having issued their debut EP, Sugar Coated Bitter Truth, in 2012, two years later they signed a contract with Virgin EMI Records (the same label that released the legendary Sex Pistols). From that moment things only got better for the band: their first long playing album, Are You Satisfied, released in 2015, ended up in the top 10 of the UK Albums Chart and got nominated for the Mercury Prize and the BBC Sound of 2015. The next album, Take Control, was produced by Beastie Boys’ Mike D, who has also made a guest appearance on one of the songs there, Consume Or Be Consumed.

August 17th this year saw the premiere of the duo’s newest album, Acts Of Fear And Love, produced in collaboration with Jolyon Thomas, known for his work with – among others – U2 and Royal Blood.

The October show in Warsaw will be Slaves’ first club concert in Poland.

Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls to play two shows in Poland (support: PUP, Xylaroo)

    Warsaw

Frank Turner is coming to Poland for two shows, on October 29th and 30th, along with the band The Sleeping Souls, which accompanies him both live and in studio. Both events are part of the tour promoting Turner’s latest album, Be More Kind.

The artist says that the album took its current shape thanks to a line from the poem Leçons Des Ténèbres by Clive James: „I should have been more kind. It is my fate. To find this out, but find it out too late.” It is to remind that eventually what really matters in life is living on good terms with other people.

The album was produced by Austin Jenkins and Joshua Block – formerly from the band White Denim – as well as Charlie Hugall – Florence And The Machine’s and Halsey’s collaborator.

Last time Frank Turner appeared in Poland for Przystanek Woodstock festival in 2017, where he received a very warm welcome. His music is a fusion of acoustic folk, elements of country and punk expression, which results in a pleasant and easily digestible listen.

Supporting Turner at both shows (in Warsaw and Cracow) there will be a Canadian group PUP (abbreviation for Pathetic Use of Potential). The band from Toronto worked out their own distinctive style, deeply rooted in punk due to its roughness, noisiness and the DIY approach (especially important in the group’s beginnings). The guys added a lot of their own ideas, though, such as interesting, often nervous and snatchy guitar leads, irregular measures and nonstandard drum beats. Skilfully operating these elements, PUP create energetic music with emotional lyrics, which results in a sense of community and special connection between the band and the audience in live situations.

The second supporting act during this part of the tour is Xylaroo – a pop-folk duo from London but with their roots in Papua New Guinea. Acoustic instruments, gently rocking rhythms and two female voices of the sisters Holly and Coco Chant cast a spell of calm and warmth, balancing between reckless danceability and melancholy.

    Where:

    29.10 Warsaw – Proxima
    30.10 Cracow – Kwadrat
